CHARLES CITY – A building in downtown Charles City was damaged in a fire over the weekend.
On August 23, 2025, just after 5:30 PM, the Charles City Fire Department was called to downtown Charles City for smoke coming from the roof at 108 N. Main Street.
According to the Charles City Fire Department, crews came from Nora Springs Farm & Fire, Marble Rock Fire Department, Osage Fire Department, New Hampton Fire, Rudd, Marble Rock Fire Department, the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department and Colwell Fire Department to help deal with the incident.
“We had more help than we need,” the fire department explained. “Knowing we had plenty of crews to step up and step in along with 4 aerial ladder trucks available, if we need them, was fantastic. Thank you to everyone who responded.
“A fire in Charles City is never just the responsibility of our fire department. It takes partners like the Charles City Police Department and AMR ambulance to ensure the public is safe while we do our job. Crews from several surrounding department also responded to our call for assistance.
“Crews gave up 5 hours of their Saturday evening getting this blaze put out and getting gear and rigs back in service. Charles City and your respective communities appreciate that you drop what you’re doing and respond at a moments notice when the tones drop. Also, huge thanks to the employees at Casey’s and Pizza Ranch in Charles City for knocking out around 25 pizzas in real short order to feed everyone! And lastly, the citizen, who on his own, ordered, paid for, and delivered the food from Pizza Ranch! We all thank you!”
The building appeared to incur serious damage, and there was no reports on any injuries to anyone.
