Northern Iowa woman driver plows into stopped motorcyclist waiting to turn

DICKINSON COUNTY - A Harley-Davidson motorcyclist merely waiting to turn left at a Northern Iowa intersection was struck from behind by a teen woman driver, and the biker had to take an ambulance ride.

DICKINSON COUNTY – A Harley-Davidson motorcyclist merely waiting to turn left at a Northern Iowa intersection was struck from behind by a teen woman driver, and the biker had to take an ambulance ride.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle accident that was reported at 11:43 AM, August 11, 2025, in the 1700 block of 260th Avenue (M-56) at Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Kimberly Vande Vegte, age 53 of Le Mars Iowa, was northbound on 260th Ave driving a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle and waiting for oncoming traffic to make a left turn into Acorn Ridge.

Kyra Brevik, age 18 of Arnolds Park, Iowa, was also northbound on 260th Avenue driving a 2015 Chevy Malibu. Brevik failed to stop within an assured clear distance and impacted the rear of the motorcycle.

Vande Vegte was transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with non-incapacitating injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by law enforcement.
