Des Moines
DES MOINES – Police say this suspect was drunk and racing through Iowa’s Capitol City with young children in his car – but he somehow managed to smile for his mugshot.

A 57-year-old Des Moines man is in the Polk County Jail after a DMPD Traffic Unit officer stopped him for driving 91 MPH in a 35 MPH zone.

Travis Trammel has also been charged with OWI, two counts of Child Endangerment, and multiple traffic violations.

Trammel was stopped shortly after 4 PM Saturday on Indianola Avenue, just south of downtown. During the stop, the officer recognized signs of impairment. At the time of the stop, Trammel had two children, ages 8 & 10, in the vehicle with him.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that in 2023, speeding killed 11,775 people on our nations roadways. Without our officers intervention, this incident could have become a heartbreaking tragedy.

Police advised: “Speed kills. Drive safe. Arrive Alive.”
