Stabbing at Northern Iowa hotel sends victim to Mason City hospital

EMMETSBURG, IOWA – Juan Carlos allegedly stabbed another man at this low-end Northern Iowa hotel, sending the victim to Mason City for treatment.

On June 15, 2025, at approximately 2:55 AM, the Emmetsburg Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing at the Super 8 Motel.

Upon arrival, Officers found a male victim, approximately 53-years-old, suffering from a stab wound. Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to the Palo Alto County Hospital and later to the Mercyone North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, where he is currently in stable condition.

Following an investigation, Officers identified and arrested Juan Carlos Montana, 41-year-old, in connection with the stabbing. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with Attempted Murder, a Class B Felony.

The Emmetsburg Police Department thanks the community for their cooperation.

The investigation remains ongoing, police say.

The Emmetsburg Police Department was assisted by the Palo Alto County Sheriffs Office and the Palo Alto County Ambulance/Hospital.
