AMES – A young man is behind bars after police investigated a rash of burglaries in Ames.

Over the past several weeks, the Ames Police Department has been investigating a rash of vehicle burglaries, primarily in the west area of the city. As a result of the investigation, 18-year-old Kamren Matthew Schmidt of Ames was taken into custody and charged with the following:

• 714.2(2)-Theft 2nd Degree, a class D felony
• 713.6A(2)-Burglary 3rd Degree-Motor Vehicle (4 counts), an aggravated misdemeanor
• 713.6B(2)-Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree-Vehicle, a serious misdemeanor
• 714.2(5)-Theft 5th Degree-a simple misdemeanor

Schmidt remains jailed at this time, awaiting a court appearance.
