Seven NIACC Trojan softball players earn all-region honors

MASON CITY – For the second straight season, NIACC’s Izzy Sloan has earned first-team all-NJCAA Region 11 honors.

Sloan earned first-team honors this season as a utility player. As a freshman, Sloan was a first-team all-region pitcher.

Earning second-team all-region honors were Ally Wall (infield), Mya Bunkers (infield), Makayla Wirkus (outfield) and Macy Kellar (utility). Camryn Dilla (catcher) and Ella Trenkamp (outfield) were honorable mention all-region picks.

Sloan, who is from Indianola, was 15-11 with a 3.00 earned run average with 170 strikeouts (third on NIACC’s single-season list) and 73 walks. She is NIACC’s career strikeout leader with 285.

Sloan, who played first base when she didn’t pitch, drove in 13 runs and had four doubles.

Wall, who is from Steuben, Wis., hit .376 with 21 home runs (fourth on NIACC’s single-season list), seven doubles and 61 RBIs (tied for fifth on NIACC’s single-season list). Wall also scored 51 runs.

Bunkers, who is from Remsen, hit .404 with 22 home runs (third on NIACC’s single-season list), 15 doubles and 71 RBIs (second on NIACC’s single-season list). Bunkers scored 61 runs (tied for seventh on NIACC’s single-season list).

Wirkus, who is from Edgar, Wis., hit .354 with 10 home runs, 16 doubles and 48 RBIs. Wirkus scored 65 runs (tied for fourth on NIACC’s single-season list) with 10 stolen bases.

Kellar, who is from Mason City, was 16-7 (16 wins is tied for sixth on NIACC’s single-season wins list) with a 2.81 ERA with 107 strikeouts and 39 walks. Kellar had a career record of 32-13 and the 32 wins ranks second on the school’s career wins list with 253 career strikeouts (third on school’s career strikeout list).

Dilla, who is from West Des Moines, hit .319 with seven doubles, one home run and 29 RBIs. Dilla also scored 25 runs.

Trenkamp, who is from Charlotte, hit .356 with 17 doubles (tied for eighth on NIACC’s single-season list), 12 home runs and 51 RBIs. Trenkamp scored 39 runs.

NIACC was 35-23 overall and 17-11 in the ICCAC. The Trojans won 30 games for the third straight season for the first time in school history.

NIACC earned the fourth seed for the NJCAA Region 11-A tournament and advanced to the regional title game before falling to top-seed DMACC. The Trojans were ranked in all 11 of the NJCAA Division II regular season polls.
