OBIT: Dennis (Tiny) Lee Johnson

Dennis (Tiny) Lee Johnson, 88, of Carpenter passed away peacefully, February 11, 2025, surrounded by family. A celebration of life will be held  from 4pm to 8pm Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Carpenter Community Center.

Dennis (Tiny) Lee Johnson, 88, of Carpenter passed away peacefully, February 11, 2025, surrounded by family.

A celebration of life will be held  from 4pm to 8pm Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Carpenter Community Center, 508 William Street, Carpenter, IA 50426.

Tiny was born August 25, 1936 in Thompson, IA to Enge and Amanda Johnson. After completing eighth grade, he began farming with his dad. He was united in marriage to Lucille Wagner on October 19, 1954 in Osage, IA.

Tiny had a deep love of family and knew no strangers. One of his greatest loves was fishing, passing on his passion to future generations. It was more than just a hobby, it was a bond. Tiny was a true entrepreneur having owned several businesses including Tiny’s Inn, Tiny’s Tap & Lucy’s Lounge, Tiny’s Livestock, and was a skilled auctioneer. He was an active member of the community serving as the Mayor of Carpenter, Carpenter Community Club and founder of the Lucille Johnson Cancer Pool Tournament.

Tiny is survived by five children, Cindy(Russ) Fossey-Flugge of St. Ansgar, Tim(Renae) Johnson of Carpenter, Joe(Teresa) Johnson of St. Ansgar, Robin(Kent (Spike)) Bauers of Northwood, Christy Scott of Northwood; fifteen grandchildren Eric(Alyssa) Fossey, Heidi(Nic) Rysavy, Ben(Kenya) Fossey, Kayla(Nick) Curtis, Kally(Jordan) Reindl, Nikki(Willie) Weis, Landon(Autumn) Johnson, Adam(Joanna) Johnson, Emily(Tanner) Woods, Dylan(Abi) Johnson, Zane Bauers, Darby(Matt) Daskam, Cody Scott, Haley(Joe) Scott, Shelby Scott, 28 (soon to be 30) great-grandchildren, special friend Judy Olson, sisters-in-law Evelyn Gilson(MaryAnn Dozark), Minerva Wagner, Marlene Wagner.

Tiny was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Johnson, daughter, Kathy Johnson; parents Amanda and Enge Johnson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Earl and Aterna Wagner; brother, Donald(Doris) Johnson; son-in-law Neal Fossey.

Though he may be gone, his legacy will live on in every cast made and fish caught in his honor.
