Iowa labor group says it has exposed conservative political organizations “masquerading” as “think tanks”

From Iowa AFL-CIO –

DES MOINES – Right-wing political organizations masking themselves as non-partisan “think tanks” are the focus of StinkTanks.org, a new national effort to expose such deceptive organizations, Public Interest Institute announced today.

StinkTanks.org shines light on how organizations such as Public Interest Institute, its national parent group the State Policy Network, and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) often enjoy the benefits of 501(c)(3) status while engaging in direct political advocacy and sometimes even donating directly to blatant political causes.

“It’s often said that sunlight is the best disinfectant, and our goal with StinkTanks.org is to shine a light on the deceptive work organizations like Public Interest Institute do to fool the public with a partisan political goal,” said Ken Sagar, President of the Iowa Federation of Labor AFL-CIO. “Organizations like PII have pushed for extreme right-wing priorities like privatizing our schools and restricting the rights of workers, and their real aim to enrich their millionaire funders must be exposed.”

Since the 1980s, conservative ‘stink tanks’ have pushed an extreme right-wing agenda in the name of research, working with Republican politicians to pass legislation that keeps wages low for working people and benefits high for big corporations and millionaires.

StinkTanks.org will provide accountability to these illusive organizations through regularly updated fact sheets, and allow Iowans to take action.

Looks like the AFL-CIO just outed themselves as a liberal democratic fundraising organization masquerading as a labor union. LOL

Bingo. Just like the SEIU… money laundering for Democrats…

Well, who knew? The AFL-CIO leadership is exactly the ones I’d go to for identifying partisan political organizations masquerading as “think tanks”.
What a crock; while this site is busy pointing out all the groups that go sleuthing about as “think tanks” let’s make sure to include these totally “unbiased” sources of knowledge and their funding sources like – Center for Economic Policy and Research, Center for Urban Future, New Democrat Network, Center for War/Peace Studies, Center for International Policy, Council for Hemispheric Affairs, Center for Defense Information, Phoenix Group, Roosevelt Institution, plus the usual cast of characters masquerading as news outlets -NY Times, Washington Post, LA Times, CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, etc., etc.
