WASHINGTON, D.C. – Donald Trump and fellow billionaire ruler Elon Musk told Americans exactly what the plans were, the voters swept them into office, and now the President is following through, slapping our neighbors to the north and south with staggering tariffs that may have far-reaching consequences.
Trump and fellow billionaire/ruler Elon Musk explained to Americans that there would be “short term pain” in the economy once he was in office and imposes sweeping changes, and it appears that pain could possibly be on the horizon. Musk said right before the November election that their plans for the economy “necessarily involves some temporary hardship.” This could be felt Monday in the stock market and next in the grocery amd lumber stores.
With typical braggadocio, Trump made his announcement Saturday:
Trump and his sycophants did not mince words on the campaign trail.
Today, I have implemented a 25% Tariff on Imports from Mexico and Canada (10% on Canadian Energy), and a 10% additional Tariff on China. This was done through the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) because of the major threat of illegal aliens and deadly drugs killing our Citizens, including fentanyl. We need to protect Americans, and it is my duty as President to ensure the safety of all. I made a promise on my Campaign to stop the flood of illegal aliens and drugs from pouring across our Borders, and Americans overwhelmingly voted in favor of it.
Trade
The World Trade Organization says “Customs duties on merchandise imports are called tariffs. Tariffs give a price advantage to locally-produced goods over similar goods which are imported, and they raise revenues for governments.”
According to taxfoundation.org, “When the Trump administration imposed tariffs on various imports in 2018, the stated purpose was to boost US industries and punish foreign exporters. But rather than hurting foreign exporters, the economic evidence shows it is American firms and consumers hardest hit by the Trump tariffs. The tariffs resulted in higher prices for a wide variety of goods that US consumers and businesses purchase. The Biden administration has continued and even increased many of the Trump tariffs—drawing some attention as inflation rises. And while tariffs do raise prices for American consumers, their impact on economy-wide inflation is relatively small.”
More from the White House:
President Donald Trump is taking decisive action to protect Americans from the fentanyl crisis. Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18 to 45.
Today’s tariff announcement is necessary to hold China, Mexico, and Canada accountable for their promises to halt the flood of poisonous drugs into the United States.
President Trump is implementing a 25 percent tariff to be paid for by Mexican producers until Mexico cooperates with the U.S. in the fight against drugs.
Mexican cartels are the world’s leading traffickers of fentanyl, meth, and other drugs. These cartels have an alliance with the government of Mexico and endanger the national security and public health of the United States.
President Trump is implementing a 25 percent tariff on Canadian goods and a 10 percent tariff on Canadian energy resources until Canada cooperates with the U.S. against drug traffickers and on border security.
There is growing production of fentanyl in Canada, and enough fentanyl was seized at the northern border last fiscal year to kill 9.8 million Americans.
Additionally, illegal border crossings from Canada reached historic new highs every year for the last four fiscal years.
President Trump is implementing a 10 percent tariff on China until we secure the full cooperation of the Chinese government in the fight against fentanyl. China plays the central role in the fentanyl crisis that is destroying American lives.
In fact, the Chinese Communist Party has subsidized Chinese chemical companies to export fentanyl. China not only fails to stem the source of illicit drugs but actively helps this business.
The Fake News is already lying about the impact of tariffs.
A 2024 study on the effects of President Trump’s tariffs during his first administration found that they “strengthened the U.S. economy” and “led to significant reshoring” in industries like manufacturing and steel production.
Even former Biden Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen affirmed last year that tariffs do not harm consumers.

The man cannot go a day without lying. He received 34% of the vote. It must be new math because 34% was never “overwhelmingly” in the math I studied.
