“Serious threats” lead to closure of Mason City library

MASON CITY – The Mason City library was forced to close today due to what they call “serious threats” and the suspect in the matter continues to roam free.

According to a statement released minutes ago (around 4:30 PM) by the Mason City Public Library (225 2nd Street SE):

“The Mason City Public Library received serious threats against patrons and staff. As a precautionary action, the library has closed until December 26 at 9 am. The most recent reports are that this patron is not in police custody at this time.”

NIT reached out to Library Director Mary Markwalter and Mason City Chief of Police Jeff Brinkley for furtheer explanation, but both are out of the office.

NIT will follow up on this matter when more details are made available.
