CLEAR LAKE – There has been a change in leadership in Clear Lake, as Scott Flory has taken an early retirement and left his role as City Administrator.

According to the last Clear Lake city council agenda, the council considered approval of an early retirement agreement with long-time City Administrator Scott Flory.  Attending the December 16 meeting were Mayor Nelson Crabb and enough council for a quorum.  In the audience it was noted that North Iowa Corridor Director Chad Schreck was seated, along with former council member Tony Nelson, award-winning radio personality Robert Fisher, and other locals.

The council that was in attendance at the meeting agreed to accept the resolution, and it was approved for Mayor Crabb to sign – with no discussion.

Flory has served Clear Lake for years and oversaw many new developments and improvements in the community.  For example, he was instrumental in a new, large apartment development that held a recent groundbreaking ceremony.  Back in 2022, NIT reported that Mr. Flory was chosen as the Citizen of the Year by the local Rotary Club.

NIT reached out to Mr. Flory for comment on his new path, and he offered the following details:

Clear Lake City Hall

“I took an early retirement incentive with the City. I turned eligible for my pension a couple months ago and have worked in this profession for 32 years. We are going to relocate later this year to Cedar Rapids area to be closer to family I signed an early retirement agreement with the City to leave now and they have turned things over to Jacob Widman to be acting City Administrator. My final date as a City employee is February 16th per my agreement. ”

According to city council actions at the recent December 16 meeting, Jacob Widman has been appointed as acting City Administrator effective immediately.  According to the City of Clear Lake website, “Jacob Widman, Director of Finance & Administrative Services, is currently serving as Acting City Administrator.”

“No doubt there are some toes I’ve stepped on a few toes over the years,” Mr. Flory noted to NIT.  He and his family plan to sell their home this Spring, “probably about March or April.”
