WATERLOO – It was a bad weekend for a Waterloo city councilwoman, who was nabbed by Walmart loss prevention on her way out of a Des Moines store and arrested for theft.
Nia Nikole Wilder is a 31-year-old Waterloo politician who was elected to the city council there and began serving in 2022. According to Waterloo city hall, “Nia served and continues to serve on various boards and committees in Waterloo. From the Waterloo Police Advisory Board, the North End Music & Arts Festival, The Grout Museum District and many more, Nia has shared her talents and gifts with her community which also included being a radio personality at KBBG-FM.”
However, all those talents were not enough to outsmart the omnipresent eye of Walmart security. An incident took place in Des Moines at a southside Walmart on Friday November 29, 2024. According to numerous media reports, allegedly, Wilder was fiddling with her Walmart Plus ap in the store and tried to leave with over $400 worth of merchandise that wasn’t properly paid for. She was stopped and after Des Moines police arrived and investigated, was arrested on a charge of fourth-degree theft, a serious misdemeanor.
Wilder was booked into the Polk county jail at 3:05 PM and soon released, pending court appearances.
