FORT DODGE – A Fort Dodge house with people inside was lit on fire, and police nabbed their suspect, but the alleged culprit claims she is not guilty of felony arson.

On Saturday, July 13th, 2024, at approximately 10:33 A.M., the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call in reference to a residential fire at 304 S 15th St. in Fort Dodge. The Fort Dodge Police Department along with the Fort Dodge Fire Department responded to the scene. Fort Dodge Fire arrived and was able to take control of the fire, containing it to the basement area of the home. The residence was occupied at the time of the fire, but all were able to escape without injuries. Upon investigation into the cause of the fire, it appeared to be suspicious in nature. Officers spoke to witnesses, processed the scene, and investigated the circumstances of the fire. The investigation revealed that a female was seen leaving the area shortly before smoke was seen coming from the home.

Over the course of the last couple months, investigators have continued to follow up on this case. During the investigation, it was determined that the fire was caused intentionally.

As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Brianna D. Anderson, 34‐years‐old of Fort Dodge on the charge of Arson 1st degree.

On October 17, an officer with the Fort Dodge Police Department spotted Anderson (pictured at top) in the area of 1st Ave S. and S 12th Street, where she was taken into custody without incident. Anderson is currently being held in the Webster County Jail on a $50,000.00 cash bond.

Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division continued to follow up on this incident.

On November 12, Anderson entered a plea of not guilty. The next day, a January 14, 2025 jury trial was set.
