SCARVILLE – An Albert Lea man lost control of his pickup truck on a curving Winnebago county road, rolling the vehicle several times and ejecting the driver.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place on August 18, 2024. At about 10:41 AM that morning, a 2007 Chevy Silverado driven by 63-year-old Mark Claassen of Albert Lea, Minnesota, was traveling south on 200th Avenue near 485th Street, outside Scarville. Claassen failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The pickup left the roadway, rolled several times and ejected Claassen, who was not wearing a seat belt.

As a result of the accident, which remains under investigation, Claassen was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Winnebago county sheriff, Lake Mills police, Lake Mills fire, Scarville fire, Forest City ambulance and Dick’s Towing.
