MASON CITY – A Mason City man died after he was walking across South Federal Avenue and woman driver turned a corner and ran him down.
On Monday, August 5, 2024, at 2:26 PM, the Mason City Police Department responded to a
collision between a car and a pedestrian at 7th Street and South Federal Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle, Ginger Clausen, of Mason City, was making a left turn from 7th Street SE onto South Federal Avenue. The pedestrian, James Grover, Sr., of Mason City, was walking eastbound crossing South Federal Avenue on 7th Street. Clausen struck Grover as he was crossing South Federal Avenue. Grover was transported to MercyOne North Iowa for treatment and later died as a result of his injuries.
The investigation into the collision was aided by a passing motorist who was able to provide a dashcam video of the collision to MCPD. The case has been reviewed by the Cerro Gordo County Attorney’s Office and Clausen will be charged with striking a pedestrian.
MCPD was assisted at the scene by the Mason City Fire Department, the Iowa State Patrol, and
several motorists who stopped to assist the involved parties prior to our arrival on scene.
This is the second recent death of a pedestrian in Mason City. On July 24, 42-year-old Jennifer Dawn Buls-Vrba of Mason City was struck and killed by a teen driver.

OMG – who wrote this?!?
First, your “Pedestrian Fatality” photo is in extremely poor taste and shows no compassion for the deceased family.
Second – “ran him down”???? Are you kidding me? That indicates intent and on purpose, at the very least. This was a terrible, tragic ACCIDENT.
This isn’t news – this is sensationalism.
why does it say WOMAN DRIVER in the headline? Are you a shitty 90s comedian?
In 2024, it is now an INSULT to refer to a person as a “woman” …. how sad.
Was he jaywalking to get Loud pipes for his HARLEY?
