IOWA CITY – An Iowa man is facing a swath of serious charges after he squeezed off some rounds at his pregnant girlfriend in an apartment full of children, decimated a TV, and caused a building evacuation.
At 5:56 PM, Saturday, June 15, 2024, Iowa City Police responded to a domestic dispute in which a handgun was fired at 2722 Wayne Avenue, No. 3. The victim reported 21-year-old Dayvon K. Long of Iowa City had fired a gun at her and fled on foot.
According to a police report, the victim is pregnant with Long’s child. During this domestic incident, Long shoved the victim into the dresser and then to the ground. Long pointed a gun at the victim and when the victim was fleeing for her life, Long shot the weapon at the
victim. Long missed the victim, striking the TV in the bedroom. Three other minor children were present in the residence at the time of the assault.
Police say Long (pictured at top) is a convicted felon in Wisconsin.
Information was gained over the course of the investigation that Long had returned to his residence at 512 S. Dubuque Street in Iowa City. The building was evacuated for the safety of other residents in the building and Long was taken into custody.
Long faces the following charges:
– Intimidation with Firearm
– Going Armed with Intent
– Child Endangerment (four counts)
– Domestic Abuse Assault of Pregnant Person and Display/Use of a Weapon
– Dominion/Control of a Firearm/Offensive Weapon by a Felon
– Carrying Weapons
– Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon
– Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury
– Reckless Use of a Firearm
