BUCHANAN COUNTY – An Iowa man climbing onto a tractor fell off and put the tractor into motion by striking the shifter, causing the behemoth to roll over him, causing serious injuries.
Authorities say that on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at approximately 6:45 AM, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a personal injury accident in the 2000 block of 170th Street. According to the investigation, Daniel Hoveland of Hazleton was attempting to climb onto a Massey Ferguson 255 tractor when he lost his balance and fell backwards. In doing so, Hoveland struck the shifter, causing the tractor to roll forward. Hoveland fell against a fence and then forward and partially under the tractor as it was moving.
He sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to UI Health Care Medical Center in Iowa City.
The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by AMR Ambulance Service.
