DICKINSON COUNTY – Five people were hurt in a Northern Iowa auto collision when one vehicle crossed a highway center line.
The Dickinson county sheriff’s office investigated a motor vehicle accident that was reported June 11 at 4:02 PM near the east junction of US Highway 71 & Highway 9, also known as the “Jackson Y”.
Timothy Wikert, age 69 of Collins, Iowa, was driving a 2025 Chevy Silverado, pulling a trailer, westbound on Highway 9 and crossed the centerline. Wikert’s vehicle narrowly missed a head-on collision, side swiping an eastbound 2022 Ford Escape driven by 25-year-old Jackson Fisher of Spirit lake, Iowa. Both vehicles spun out of control, with Wikert’s vehicle ending on its side.
Five people were injured in the accident. One was treated on scene with possible injuries, two transported to Estherville Holy Family Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries and two were transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare with incapacitating injuries.
Damage was estimated at $12,000 to Wikert’s vehicle and $20,000 to Jackson’s.
Wikert was cited for failure to maintain control.
This accident remains under investigation.
