Emily Marie (Anderson) Miller, 78, of Floyd, passed to her Heavenly home on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs with her loving family by her side.

A public visitation for Emily Miller will be held Friday, August 25, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City. A private family graveside service will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd.

Emily was born to Harold and Josephine (Seiler) Anderson on September 17, 1944 in Rodman, Iowa. They moved to Fontenelle, Iowa for two years, then Stanhope for three years where she started school. Her father was Superintendent of several Iowa public schools throughout her early years and her mom was the school cook. Emily was raised with good values and Christian principles. She went to church and all religious classes. Emily graduated from Woden-Crystal Lake and then got her college degree from Mason City, LaJames Cosmetology and began working at Mary’s Pin-Up in Charles City. This is where her parents had chosen to retire and she met her husband, Martin (they were married on July 7, 1965).

Once children came along, Emily chose to stay home and be a homemaker and raise her family. She stayed active in their Christian education and church. She kept her Lord the top priority and was earnest in all her endeavors. Emily served at several churches in the Charles City area, but held a special place in her heart for Howardville Wesleyan Church. She had regular friends who continued to come to the house for hair appointments and a good cup of coffee.

Working with children was one of her favorite passions. She was a faithful support for the homes Martin built and together they spent many hours working diligently on renovation projects, gardening/harvesting, ministering to loved ones, Bible studies, making apple cider, bus trips or just days away. Traditions and gatherings were instilled in the family. Emily had a compassion for the elderly as well and spent many hours assisting them in their home or to the doctor. She was a friend you could call, and she would drop everything to come and help.

Emily’s last four years since Martin died have been a great challenge to her, but God has gotten her through, and she learned how to lean on her Savior.

Those left to honor Emily’s memory are her three children: Christine (Charlie) Newman, Mike (Amy) Miller and Paul (Jenny) Miller all of Floyd; eight grandchildren: Tim (Stephanie) Newman, Laura (Seth) Binion, Andrew (Beth) Newman, Meagan Miller (significant friend Charlie Rietz), Ben (Tina) Miller, Mason Miller, Emma Miller and Brooklyn Miller; eight great-grandchildren: Vivian, Maximus, Ruby, Henry, Mackenna, Huck, Sawyer and Adeline; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Martin; brother, Wayne Anderson; and two sisters: Elayne Stewart and Marlene Hennick.
