
On May 27, Des Moines police officers responded to late night reports of gunfire in Cowles Commons. A window at a nearby hotel is hit. Then, on June 6, officers responded to early morning reports of gunfire at the Pappajohn Sculpture Park. Dozens of people are present, but fortunately no injuries occur. Bullets strike a nearby business damaging unique, custom glass. In all, damage estimates exceed $250,000, according to police.
Detectives followed evidence in this case to a suspect, 21-yr-old Des Moines resident Theo James Larkpor.
On June 15, detectives found Larkpor walking downtown during the lunch hour and took him into custody. At the time of his arrest, Larkpor was armed with a .40 caliber handgun.
Larkpor has been charged with multiple crimes related to these incidents, including three felony crimes. He has been released from jail while his case works it’s way through the courts.
