RURAL BENTON COUNTY, IOWA – An elderly Iowa man riding a motorcycle that was being towed with a rope attached to a Ford Focus was killed when he was rear-ended by a driver.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place on the afternoon of June 10, 2023 in Benton county. At about 2:10 PM that day at 77th Street and 18th Avenue, a 2012 Ford Focus driven by 84-year-old Francis Potter of Luzerne, Iowa, was pulling a motorcycle with a rope, ridden by 81-year-old Lorin Potter, also of Luzerne. These vehicles were traveling at a very slow speed. At this location, a 2015 Volkswagon Passat, driven by 45-year-old Stacia Mewes Blairstown, Iowa, was unable to stop and struck the motorcycle and pushed it into the Focus. Lorin Potter was ejected from the motorcycle, which was sent into a ditch.
As a result of the collision, Lorin Potter was transported by ambulance to a Cedar Rapids hospital and passed away.
