RURAL EMMET COUNTY – A semi-tractor accident on a rural Northern Iowa roadway blocked traffic for hours Wednesday, causing $140,000 damages.

According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, the sheriff’s office responded to a call of a semi-tractor trailer that had overturned in the 1300 block of 490th avenue south of Dolliver at 3:07 PM.

Upon investigation at the scene, it was reported that the southbound semi-tractor trailer driven by Andy Eckert of Alpha, Minnesota, had to take evasive action onto the west shoulder of 490th Avenue to avoid a collision with a northbound vehicle that was crowding the southbound lane of travel. As a result of the soft shoulder conditions, the semi-tractor trailer was unable to return to the roadway surface and entered the west ditch where it overturned and spilled distiller’s grains into the road ditch. Eckert was not injured in the accident however the 2023 Peterbuilt semi owned by RVT of Armstrong sustained an estimated $140,000 in damage. The other vehicle involved in the accident was not located. The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Emmet County Secondary Roads Department.
