Op-ed: Bookmeyer, Trout, Council a “dark comedy” (by Peter Children)

Why a should This Be Anything Different?

I read Carl Grover this morning in the Globe; what he said not only made sense but also reinforced my unwavering belief that it is totally impossible for this local governing body to construct or assemble any form of legislation that would come close to being cohesive. It’s just not in their genes….not there, never was and never will be. The best description I could make of these eight people; mayor, administrator and council, is a “dark comedy” a virtual curse bestowed on this community as a lesson to all the consequences of what happens when you do not vote.

What a horrible mess this has turned out to be, but again there is no surprise here. Nothing has changed and nothing will until November….and then only if you vote. If I taught civic’s I’ drag my class to the council meetings to witness first hand extreme I incompetence and the ensuing consequences to the populace.

Again I refer to the failed “business plan” this group of 8 put in place at NIACC. Ever wonder why there never has been any follow up reviews or reports regarding that on going expenditure? No one wants to be associated with it is why. Now this group of 8 has engineered this city into position for yet another loss in court, one that could easily dwarf those that we already paid big money for. Bookmeyer and Trout and the entire council thought Foster was out to lunch….and to a large extent he was; he was eating their lunch………

Bookmeyer is too young to be Mayor. He hasn’t paid any dues and does not understand the struggle of a poor man. He can’t even imagine it. And for those reasons I’m out.

Dark comedy or not, these people were voted into office. The real problem is this, look at the choices that were offered at the time. It has been said before and needs to be said again, no one in Mason City has a clue on how to run or govern a city AND be successful at it. Past history has proven that. So far, only one person has stepped up to run for mayor. You just may have to get used to the idea of Bookmeyer being mayor for another four years! We will have to see how November plays out won’t we? Will there be change or more of the same?

Pete – how about an example of “cohesive” legislation. What are the “failures” you allude to at NIACC? Foster ate “their lunch”? He’s the one that is heading out the door.
All I see in your write up is an incoherent broad side at those you don’t like.

@4ever49-don’t you think part of the reason Foster is being forced out is because he “ate their lunch”? I am pretty sure the Drunkmaster was retaliating against Lionel in payment for his buddy getting called out. I would be willing to bet that it comes up in the law suit.

I’m not aware of a buddy of the Mayor being called out by Foster. My presumption is that there was a duplication of taxpayer paid for services and that Mason City was paying a lot more than say Ft. Dodge for the same function.
If something comes up in “the law suit”, just what kind of suit are you alluding to?

Try I.C. Systems-the president donated a lot of money to Bookie so he could get leverage against Foster.

@4ever-why the law suit Old Foster is going to file of course. You can file a suit on anyone at anytime for any reason and he is an expert on it.

Quinn will do a good job….thank you.

“first hand extreme I competence”Wow, Peter I have just read first hand extreme INCOMPETENCE. “If I taught civic’s I’ drag my class”.
Matt hire Peter a proofreader ,PLEASE.
This op-ed really caught me off guard. I had no clue Peter didn’t like these people.;>)

He’s too old. That’s the answer he has given before anyway.

78? That’s the new 58. Go for it Peter. ;))

76 trombones? That’s the new 54 trombones.

Yes Peter, you seem to have all the answers. I’d expect nothing less than to hear that you are running for something. Mayor Peter. Go for it.

Yes Peter you should run for Mayor. You know all the right questions to ask and your knowledge of some many aspects of government would be a big benefit too-Not!
Get off your computer and go get a meaningful productive life.

Peter why do you not run for mayor, then you could not blame anyone other then yourself……Jim
