Iowa man convicted of sexually abusing multiple children

BOONE, IOWA – An Iowa man has been convicted of sexually abusing multiple children over the course of years.

Tommy Gene Collins, age 66 of Boone, appeared in the District Court for a jury trial on Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, a Class B Felony; two counts of Sexual Abuse 2nd, class B Felonies; two counts of Sexual Abuse 3rd, class C Felonies; Lascivious Acts with a Child, a Class C Felony; and, Indecent Contact with a Child, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. A four day long jury trial occurred in which evidence was presented of ongoing sexual abuse of multiple victims. The jury returned verdicts of guilty to all but the Lascivious and Indecent counts.

Sentencing will be set for a later date.

Collins faces a potential maximum of 120, with a mandatory minimum range of at least 17.5-35 years. The defendant will also be required to register as a sex offender for life and be on a special lifetime parole.

The case was investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
