MASON CITY – Now that our beloved Mohawk has vanished forever, the Mason City School District is offering the public a chance to submit ideas for a new mascot that will not offend anyone.

The Mason City High School Student Senate was tasked with forming a committee to work on the submission of new mascot ideas and then creating a selection process to submit a recommendation for a new mascot to the Board of Education to consider at their meeting on March 21, 2022. The committee is requesting anyone who is interested in submitting an idea to complete the Mascot Idea Submission Form by February 22, 2022.

To access the link to complete the Mascot Idea Submission Form and to submit your mascot idea visit the district website at http://www.masoncityschools.org. Hard copy/paper submission forms can also be picked up (MCHS Student Senate, Mason City High School, 1700 4th St. SE, Mason City, IA) or requested (641-421-4436) or email StudentSenate@masoncityschools.org for the link.
The Student Senate and the district are excited to move forward with this new venture and are looking forward to seeing what students, staff and community submit to represent the proud traditions we have here in Mason City and the North Iowa community.

    1. Clear Lake has several MC students, Central springs MC student numbers have risen, Newman’s enrollment has gained ground, MCCSD numbers have tanked and there is never any good news coming from it other than they are spending money, lots of money. Maybe the name name Mohawk suited their dying breed closer than anyone thought.

  1. The school board is as credible as the letter from St. Regis that was never signed and supposed to be on the way!!!

  2. Take these damn tablets the schools hands out and send them back to China, due to tablets kids can’t even write a paragraph. Or sign their name. Or tell time on a clock. It’s sad to see kids struggle the way they do.

  3. Mason City Tromboners. Or Fighting Tromboners. Or Tromboner Warriors. An homage to our claim to fame and non offensive.

    1. If the mascot was just a simple white kid with a hair left down the middle and above his ears the hair was shaved around his skull, what would that mascot be? This would make national news.

  4. People you can’t forget the hell we have been through this year with the democrats and Biden. School’s, what they are teaching, mask for are children, gas prices, food, taxes, teachers teaching wrong things to are children, border opening, housing, jobs, letting the left kill our police, people on the streets, not putting the bad guys in jail, and so much more and if you are a good American, and love your country you will not put them back in.

  5. Unbelievable what’s going on with the name change. We got 7 people on the school board who never graduated from Mason city highschool and they are making the decisions. It’s time for the ALUMNI and the people of Mason city to stand up to these people. God bless the children of Mason city who are being used as pawns for the leftiest school board.

    1. You’re mistaken. The people who serve on the school board have all chosen to serve Mason City’s school district. They must have a vested interest in the district or serving on it would have no purpose. I’m also pretty sure that they didn’t all get together 10 years ago, decide to get elected to the board and screw all the alumni by getting rid of the school sports team’s name. It wasn’t too long ago that some of the loudest whiners crying about the name change and the leftist terrorists on the board, were praising the election of Jody Draper to the board – how’s that working out for you? Seems you forgot about them until a ‘crisis’ occurred and now you want their heads. RUN FOR THE BOARD YOURSELF! Those of you who moved out, send a couple thousand back to Iowa a $1000 to a candidate who graduated and $1000 to the Mohawk Scholarship Board. ( which, by the way, you should create to give away donations to the Save the Mohawk fund). If you give away a scholarship every year from the Mohawk Foundation you’ll keep the name alive until people stop donating. Good solution, good cause, common sense.
