WEST DES MOINES – A teen has been arrested for felony arson after a West Des Moines building burned.
On November 2nd, 2020 at approximately 3:58 P.M., Westcom Communications Center was notified of a structure fire at 1231 8th Street, West Des Moines. When officers and firefighters arrived, they found a building on the north side of the complex with heavy smoke emanating from inside and flames beginning to show. A restaurant directly south of the building was evacuated and the West Des Fire Department began to combat the fire.
Once the fire was extinguished, police and fire investigators began to ascertain the origin of the fire as most of the building was unoccupied. After a physical examination of the fire scene and leads being developed by investigators, an arrest has been made in this case.
Today, a 17 year old male juvenile has been charged with Arson 2nd, a class “C” felony in the state of Iowa. The investigation is ongoing however, no further charges are expected to be filed.
