Two perish in house explosion in rural Thornton in Franklin county

THORNTON, IOWA – Two persons have passed away as a result of a house explosion near Thornton, Iowa earlier this month.

An obituary says Janice Doane, 71, of rural Thornton passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020 from injuries sustained in an explosion at her home. Melissa “Missy” Doane, 40, of Thornton passed away Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from injuries sustained in an explosion that occurred Saturday, October 3, 2020 at her parent’s home near Thornton.

The Doane’s own several properties, but there is a house they own at 598 250TH Street in rural Thornton in Franklin county.

The Iowa Fire Marshall is investigating the explosion. There has been no official information released on the incident to date.
