Juco Sports: NIACC’s Bertry clocks 4th fastest 5K in school history

ANKENY – NIACC freshman Sarah Bertry placed third at the Grand View Open Saturday on the DMACC campus.

Bertry, who is from France, covered the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 12 seconds, which is the fourth fastest 5K time in school history.

The top three women’s 5K times in school history belong to Hannah Palmeter (17:51 in 2014), Anna Buenneke (18:15 in 2011) and Paula Jimenez (18:40 in 2019).

NIACC placed fourth in the team standings with 122 points. Iowa Central was the team champion with 24 points and Hawkeye CC was second with 58 points.

Iowa Central’s Chloe Lenoir was the individual champion in a time of 18:40.

Also for the NIACC women, sophomore Whitney Martin was 26th in 22:37, Lauren Kern was 31st in 23:29, Addy Witt was 33rd in 23:38 and Ashley Kriener was 40th in 24:43.

Former NIACC runner Alana Wickering led the Waldorf women with an 18th-place finish in 22:07.
