UNI Athletics reports positive COVID tests

CEDAR FALLS – Seven UNI student-athletes that have been involved in voluntary workouts in UNI Athletics facilities have tested positive for COVID-19. There has also been one staff member who tested positive. The positive tests come after over 150 student-athletes and staff have been tested.

Voluntary workouts continue on campus, but the weight room has been closed this week for a deep cleaning ahead of the 4th of July holiday. UNI Athletics is expected to reopen the weight room on July 6.

“We feel like these positive tests are indicative that our screening protocols are working,” Director of Athletics David Harris said. “Because of the holiday weekend, we thought it would be best to extend our scheduled closure and thoroughly clean the weight room to make sure we are doing everything in our power to keep our student-athletes safe. We are acting out of an abundance of caution.”

All workouts on-campus have included thorough screening, social distancing, wearing face coverings and disinfecting all equipment used. Conditioning drills have taken place in large areas or outside when possible and all workouts are monitored by strength and conditioning and athletic training staff to ensure compliance to the procedures put in place.

All student-athletes that are tested are required to self-quarantine and are not allowed in UNI facilities while tests are pending. Any that test positive are required to quarantine for the recommended 14 days after the positive test.

UNI athletic facilities reopened for voluntary workouts on June 8, beginning with football. Other fall sports reopened on June 15.

NBA at Disney World is a fail. So is sports this fall. Yes, life is interrupted so take a break. If these various peoples want to ‘ramp it up’ by reopening up everything than the winter season will truly be hell on earth. 60,000 reported cases yesterday. And people in the northern half of Florida haven’t even seen the death rate climb yet. This has all the making of another great depression in the makings. The Dominoes will fall…August, September, October, November, …economic hardship. Poof! Like a magic trick the money is gone.

Not to worry, Biden and his rat pack will fix it.

They would fix it by raising our taxes, on money we don’t have.

it’s hard to get milk out of a turnip.

Nobody is going to ‘fix’ it. It is a virus and it is spreading. The only way to ensure safety for all is to wear a mask and don’t hold large gatherings. Trump surely isn’t going to fix it because he thinks it interferes with his re-election plans. Unfortunately for him, (fortunately for us) his ‘handling’ of it up to this point has caused his drop in ratings. Yes, we have the lowest mortality rate but we have more cases than almost all of the other countries combined. The 135,000 dead so far mean nothing to him because they can’t vote for him.

Well said – That’s pretty much it. I can’t understand how he only thinks about himself, yet all these people still follow him. It’s like Jonestown or Koresh. Come on people, wise up, open your eyes – the guy’s kinda a douche, you know it. He don’t care about you, just himself – America is going to give someone else a chance.

For sure, he’s damned if he does, and he’s damned if he doesn’t. But the hate filled demorats will surely turn everything around and take us back to Avatar.
