“Iowa’s leading the nation in ACT scores, an important measurement to determine college and career readiness. The results reflect our commitment to education and the need to do even more to better prepare our young people for the future,” said Gov. Reynolds. “It’s why Iowa must continue to build on innovative programs that connect individuals to the training and education required for rewarding careers.”
Iowa Department of Education Director Ryan Wise issued the following statement:
“Schools are doing more than ever to ensure that all students are ready for the demands of college or career training. While there’s more to do, today’s news is a testament to all of the great work underway. In my weekly visits to schools across the state, I’m inspired by students taking ownership of their learning and teachers committed to preparing students for success beyond high school.”
Iowa and South Dakota had an average composite score of 21.6 out of a possible 36. Iowa’s score declined slightly from the previous year (21.8), but remains well above the national average (20.7). The 22,965 Iowa students who took the ACT represent 66 percent of last spring’s graduating class.
* “For the third time in a row since Common Core was fully phased in nationwide, U.S. student test scores on the nation’s broadest and most respected test have dropped, a reversal of an upward trend between 1990 and 2015. Further, the class of 2019, the first to experience all four high school years under Common Core, is the worst-prepared for college in 15 years, according to a new report.”

How come the Star Tribune just reported Minnesota is number one in average ATC scores.
Because Iowa is first in ACT scores. ATC is A Trump Con.
Minnesota had the highest average ACT for states where 90% or more of graduating seniors took the ACT. Iowa had the highest average score for states where 59% or more of graduating seniors took the ACT. Neither metric is all that useful when you consider many parts of the country use SAT testing, not ACT testing.
Kids of the future will be taught computer coding at a very early age. Teachers will be replaced by people who monitor the computers. Each child will be assigned a computer as a learning center. We are at the beginning of a world from cartoon land. The Jetsons.
Less students should equal a higher score, not lessor.
Where are resident know-it-alls who complain about teachers and their supposedly lack of ability to teach? They will jump all over a story that says Iowa education funding is too low but when their own party praises the job teachers are doing, they are quiet.
Where are the stat’s on English and Math Dumb Ass! and the SAT scores went down as usual.
