Mason City fire department receives grant to hire three full time firefighters

MASON CITY – The Mason City fire department announced it has received a grant to hire three full time firefighters.

The Mason City Fire Department is pleased to announce funding has been awarded through theDepartment of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response(SAFER) program. The department will receive a total of $399,921 for the hiring of three full time firefighter positions.

The SAFER program is designed to strengthen the nation’s ability to respond to fire and fire related hazards and improve the nation’s overall level of preparedness by supporting the hiring of firefightersand the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters. With this grant award, the Mason City Fire Department will more effectively and safely respond to emergencies with improved staffing and deployment capabilities for the city and surrounding area.

What they didn’t tell you is after the grant money runs out then the tax payers will be stuck paying for them.

Ya, we really need more guys sitting at the fire department doing nothing. SMH

So you’re upset that there aren’t fires and emergencies happening 24 hrs around the clock for them to be busy with?? What a clown..

They should have made half the department volunteer like was proposed. That’s why they had to hurry up and take over the EMT services to start at least looking like they were doing something.
