DES MOINES – Gov. Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa to fly at half-staff from sunrise on Oct. 6 to sunset on Oct. 7, 2018. Flags will fly at half-staff Saturday, Oct. 6, to honor a fallen soldier and Sunday, Oct. 7, for the Fallen Firefighters Memorial service.
Army Private Donald E. Brown, of Thompson, was killed in action on July 28, 1944, when his tank was destroyed by enemy fire in France. The 24-year-old’s remains were buried at an American military cemetery in France as an unknown soldier. The remains were disinterred in August 2017 and identified through DNA testing. Brown will be buried with full military honors Saturday in Thompson.

Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state.
Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
