Sheffield man hurt in rural Cerro Gordo county crash

RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – A Sheffield man was hurt in a rural Cerro Gordo county crash Monday afternoon.

On Monday, February 26, 2018 at about 2:58 PM, the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a single vehicle accident with injuries at 140th Street and Indigo Avenue SW of Swaledale. Robert Eugene De Los Sontos, age 61 of Sheffield, was driving Eastbound on 140th Street approximately 1/2 mile East of Indigo Avenue in his 2004 Buick Lesabre when he lost control on the gravel road. De Los Sontos entered the North ditch, causing his vehicle to tip onto the passenger side and then roll before coming to rest on all four wheels.

De Los Sontos was transported to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa by Mason City Fire Medics to be evaluated. De Los Sontos was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Swaledale Fire Department, Rockwell-Swaledale EMT’s and Mason City Fire Medics.
