CLEAR LAKE – A Ventura man avoided prison and instead was sent to jail for 30 days for a felony drunk driving conviction.
A Cerro Gordo county deputy stopped a vehicle Saturday, June 10, 2017 at about 10:04 PM near 15297 Raney Drive in Clear Lake. After an investigation, two men were arrested. Robert Allen Stangel, age 58 of Ventura, was arrested for operating while intoxicated and providing alcohol to a minor. The drunk driving charge became a felony third-offense charge. Also arrested was Kyle William Stangel, age 28 of Forest City, on three arrest warrants out of Minnesota on drug and stolen vehicle charges. He was also slapped with new charges of illegal drug and paraphernalia possession as well as a felony of bringing a controlled substance to the jail. Court records show Kyle William Stangel failed to appear in court for an arraignment on July 11 and has been wanted on an arrest warrant ever since.
Robert Allen Stangel later pled guilty to felony third-offense operating while intoxicated. He was given a suspended 5-year prison sentence, 30 days in jail, 5 years of probation, loss of driver’s license, and $4,408.75 in fines and court fees.
Robert Allen Stangel was caught drunk driving in 2013, again by Clear Lake police. He paid over $2,600 in fines and court fees for that offense. Previously, in 2006, he was caught and prosecuted for drunk driving after a stop by the Iowa State Patrol.
