MASON CITY – More than 1,000 local seniors will receive a FREE Thanksgiving meal this weekend at an event hosted by CENT Credit Union in conjunction with several generous sponsors.
CENT Credit Union is bringing back its popular annual free Thanksgiving meal for seniors this weekend. This event has traditionally attracted more than 1,200 seniors for food, fellowship, and tradition.
Volunteers from CENT, including team members and board members, will be joined by volunteers from Thrivent Financial, Knights of Columbus, and the community to pull the event together. Turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, and more will be served beginning at 11 a.m. at The Columbia Club (formerly KC Hall).
“We’re humbled by the support this event has received in the past,” said CENT President & CEO Matthew Chizek. “We’re excited to continue the time-honored tradition, and we hope to serve more people than ever this year.”
This community event could not be possible without food and finances donated by Smithfield Foods, Diamond Jo Casino, Martin Bros., Thrivent Financial, Knights of Columbus, and D&D Sales.

I belonged to the city employees credit union as it was run by max stephens. max used to give back a percentage of the interest you paid, would get a check at xmas time. that was a employee owned c.u. then mercy got its hooks in it and it began a downhill slide. now this chizek gets it and thinks he’s in new York or something. I liked the big story that he put out when they accuried the new buildings. he said he was taking two vacant buildings out of the market, he forgot to say that he was also putting two vacant buildings into the market,. the former building occupied by the c.u. are still sitting there empty.
Bitter much? This is a positive story, yet all you can do is piss on it.
Cent lost all respect when the stuck their nose into our city politics. we have pulled everything out of that credit union. We do not need to be told how to vote by someone we pay with our money.
Fine, but you can find some other occasion to vent about CENT instead of pissing on this story about them and other entities helping to provide Thanksgiving dinner to 1,000 or more local senior citizens.
