AMES – Iowa State senior wide receiver/punt returner Trever Ryen has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2017 Paul Hornung Award, announced today by the Louisville Sports Commission.
The Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse is given annually to the nation’s most versatile major college football player and is named in honor of Paul Hornung, a member of both the college and pro football halls of fame.
A native of Ida Grove, Iowa, Ryen is a two-time Hornung Award Watch List recipient behind his exploits as a receiver and punt returner.
Ryen was a First-Team All-Big 12 honoree as a punt returner by ESPN after averaging 16.5 yards per return in 2016, the third-best average in school history. He led the Big 12 with six punt returns of 25 yards or longer.
His career 16.0 punt return average ranks No. 1 in school history.
Ryen is also one of ISU’s top receivers, ranking second on the team in receptions (37) and recording 388 receiving yards and two TDs in 2016. He has 55 catches and 579 receiving yards in his career.
