MASON CITY — Councilman Bill Schickel announced today he will be a candidate for mayor of Mason City in the November 7th election.
Schickel was previously elected three times as Mason City’s mayor and served three terms in the Iowa House of Representatives. “I will be running a 100% positive campaign,” Schickel said. “As always, I will be knocking on doors, visiting every neighborhood and listening to citizens concerns.” “When I ran for mayor the first time nearly 30 years ago, our oldest daughter was a toddler and our other daughters were not yet, born,” Schickel said. “My how things have changed. But one thing that has not changed is my passion to serve and love of Mason City.”
“I’m very excited and optimistic about the future of our great city,” Schickel said. “We face some significant challenges. But there is nothing we can’t accomplish if we work together. I hope to use my background and experience to bring people together to get things done and move our community forward.” Schickel said his priorities will include being responsive to citizens concerns, job creation and neighborhood improvement. Schickel and his wife, Candi, a Mason City attorney, are the parents of three grown children.
Other quotes from Mr. Schickel:
“My priorities will include bringing people together to get things done, good paying jobs and neighborhood improvement.”
“We have some big challenges, but there is NOTHING we can’t accomplish by working together.”
” When mayor 1st time nearly 30 years ago, our oldest daughter was a toddler & other 2 were not born. My how things have changed … but one thing that has NOT changed is my passion to serve and love of Mason City!”
“It’s going to be a 100% POSITIVE CAMPAIGN! As always, I’ll be visiting every neighborhood, knocking on doors and listening to you.”

Brilliant, “he don’t even know it”
Good grammar.
Explains a lot about the non supporters of Weaver.
Let’s get more dumb shall we?!
Seeing how Mason City allows children to be murdered with no consequences, the town is not a good place to invest in…politically or financially. Let these bozos do what they will. Rinse your hands of it, and leave first chance you get.
Peter L. Why don’t you leave and stay gone like you said you would?
Election coming up. I still have the yard signs. Might as well put them to use eh?
You might as well. A lot of people on here were dumb enough to waste their vote on Clinton, they might be dumb enough to vote for you Peter L.
Today’s flavor is Grape
Same ole same ole. Now’s our chance to think outside the current 4 walls that have tormented, lied, cheated, even tormented our very being around here.
I say Weaver for a no bullshit approach , with more knowledge about our town than anyone living here today. With some light hearted fun thrown in, God knows we need that! You all know it really.
Weaver don’t have all his oars in the water either.. Mason City needs some new and WISE leadership. That is sorely lacking on the Council. Weaver is void of wisdom and I would never vote for him either. Weaver is irrelevant and he don’t even know it.
Bill Schickel for Mayor? YUK
Bill was a great mayor before and he will make a great mayor again.
As an objective observer, Mason City needs to move on fom these past political candidates and find some new fresh blood to lead the city. Do yourself a favor and don’t elect any past councilmen or mayors.
Make mine a WEAVER ! Too the MAX ! Honest and not on the take.
As posted above, do not elect any past councilmen or mayors back into office. Weaver is the worse person you can waste a mayoral term with, he is nothing but a troublemaker.
Schickel isn’t any better, if you look at his past voting record as councilman, he has quietly distanced himself from
participating in difficult issues and decisions which have been on the city agenda. He’s just been sandbagging to gain votes for this coming election. I hope the residents can find someone better than these two people
Oh, how quickly we forget! Bill just voted to give Gatehouse Capital $150,000 of our tax money to conduct their hotel feasibility study, and he is excited about us taxpayers bank rolling Gatehouse’s hotel project up to $4.3 million dollars, interest free. But I guess that’s his “POSITIVE CAMPAIGN”.
Bill also voted against the casino locating near town. He has been deceptive and a yes man for Bookie on this hotel farce. I would NOT vote for him or any current council member!
Sounds like supervisors abrams and bartz – corporate owned and on the take.
We’d like to see your documented proof to support your ridiculous statement. And we don’t accept your rumor monger say so.
Bill’s personality is not suited to be a leader.
He also has a proven record of dishonesty. Says one thing to me and something just the opposite to my friend.
Willie Pickel is a political hack!
Pulling a Bransted…..
Try to be the longest serving mayor (nonconsecutive terms) in the history of Mason City.
He is a Chamber of Commerce stooge all the way.
if he was a commerce stooge he would have voted yes on prestage.
Tax and spend lib, nothing new here
Well you are sad, but not true.
Schickel is a Republican, former the Co-Chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa, chairman of the 2012 Iowa Caucus Review Committee and Republican former Iowa State Representative, representing the 13th District for three terms.
Hardly a “lib”.
Ditto: Our poster is Very Sad but False (often)
Schickle is a wishy, washy RINO. I wouldn’t vote for him if he was the only one running. He has had his chance and failed the city.
Bill is lazy, and has lived off of others for far too long. He collects a pay check from kcmr radio program, yet does nothing for the program itself? Everyone who actually does something for the radio program donates their time for free, and bill thinks its appropriate to collect money from a non profit without actually earning the money. Career politicians like this need to be ran out of town like the scum they are. He has no intentions of doing anything but whats best for him.
