
RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – The driver of a corvette was killed while passing traffic in rural Cerro Gordo county Saturday morning.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that the driver of a 1980 Corvette was passing traffic Saturday morning, September 19, 2020 at about 9:48 AM on Balsam Avenue just south of county road B14. As the corvette passed traffic northbound on Balsam Avenue, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it entered the west ditch, rolled and came to rest. The driver was killed due to the accident.
The driver was later identified as 72-year-old Robert Vaughn of Rolfe, Iowa. The patrol claims Vaughn was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Assisting the Iowa State Patrol was Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Office, Department Of Natural Resources, Mason City Fire and Hanlontown Fire.
