Woman shot while in car in Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE – A woman was shot while in a car in Fort Dodge, sustaining severe injuries.

Sunday morning at approximately 2:15 AM, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received information that a female had arrived at Unity Point – Trinity Regional Medical Center (UP‐TRMC) with at least one gunshot wound. Officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department responded and discovered an 18‐year‐old female victim had been transported to UP‐TRMC by private vehicle. It was determined the female had been shot and sustained life-threatening injuries. The female victim was transported to a Des Moines hospital for further medical treatment.

As officers began their investigation, it was determined that the female victim was in a vehicle at the time of the shooting in the 400 block of South 14th Street in Fort Dodge. Information gathered at this time indicates one or more individuals from one vehicle, fired at the vehicle occupied by the victim. The female was the only individual to sustain injuries.

The Fort Dodge Police Department, along with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations are continuing to look into this incident. Anyone who may have information, is strongly encouraged to contact law enforcement immediately. The Fort Dodge Police Department was assisted on scene by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
