CHARLES CITY – This Charles City woman was discovered by police, allegedly drunk and ready to do battle, but she ended up behind bars and owing a hefty price tag to Iowa courts for her actions.
The incident went down on April 9, 2017. At 7:47 PM that evening, officers with the Charles City police department were called to the 400 block of 3rd Avenue for an intoxicated person. After an investigation and an apparent interaction with suspect Mara Hartzell, damage was allegedly done to a police vehicle. Police attempted to take Hartzell into custody, but apparently, she may have interfered with this attempt in a violent fashion.
Hartzell was eventually taken to jail on the following charges, police records show:
– PUBLIC INTOXICATION
– INTERFERENCE WITH OFFICIAL ACTS
– ASSAULT ON A PEACE OFFICER (TWO COUNTS)
– DOMESTIC ABUSE CAUSING INJURY
– CRIMINAL MISCHIEF (CAUSING DAMAGE TO A POLICE VEHICLE)
Hartzell eventually pleaded guilty to only the crime of fourth-degree criminal mischief, and ordered to pay Iowa courts $1522.35.
