DES MOINES – In what many say will usher in sweeping changes to Iowa’s gun laws, the Iowa Senate passed “the largest pro-gun bill in state history” Tuesday.
HF517 dubbed by some the “Stand your ground” bill, passed the Iowa Senate 33-17 Tuesday. The vote was mainly on party lines with a few Democrats crossing over to support the bill. Locally, Democrat Amanda Ragan voted no in the Senate, while Democrats Sharon Steckman and Todd Prichard voted no in the House version of the bill. Due to some changes made in the Senate version of the bill, it goes back to the House once more before it ultimately reaches the governor’s desk, where it likely will will be signed.
The Iowa Firearms Coalition calls the bill “the largest pro-gun bill in state history” and celebrated its approval in the Senate Tuesday. The group singled-out on its website those Senators who voted in favor of and against the bill.

The bill allows for the use of deadly force. A person is justified in the use of reasonable force, the bill language says, when the person reasonably believes that such force is necessary to defend oneself or another from any actual or imminent use of unlawful force. A person who reasonably believes that a forcible felony is being or will imminently be perpetrated is justified in using reasonable force, including deadly force, against the perpetrator or perpetrators of that felony.
The bill also gives greater leeway to parents and guardians of children under the age of 14 in possessing firearms.

Liberal democrats don’t have to carry – their used to dropping their pants and bending over – lot’s of them unemployed since they outlawed private lemonade stands – think there needs to be more regulations passed like this? Sheeple the people it’s for your own good say the crooked politicans.
Ruger – 380 LCP – love it – fits nicely in your pants pocket – never without it and almost invisible from viewers.
What is a good handgun to use that is small and effective? I’m in the market.
A 380 is a nice gun. Small but effective and easy to conceal.
Firearms are a tool that made this country what it is. So if you think this is wrong put a sign n your yard that your anti gun. I competitive shoot and believe that we should have rights to protect our families and properties. Carry laws have made a difference in crimes.
These same Creepy libs think it’s just fine to kill babies with a knife . But make it a law to kill a baby with a GUN that would end this insane madness the creeps own.
sorry, I forgot to point out the funny comments…..except Allen and Nada Racist, they are all Anonymous – so I guess they are all funny
reading these…….hahahaha, man, just funny…hahaha
Just made it easier for democrats to get rid of some republicans.
Most people only need guns if they make enemies or are paranoid.
This was already federal law -SO THERE !
Finally, back to the wild wild west. Could be good, then again, maybe not.
NADA the snowflake artist – sculptures his own poop.
Make note Regan and Steckman (public servant union puppets) voted NO ! Remember that next election — goodbye gals !
Yeehaw…… we all died and went to hillbilly heaven. Thank you Jesus.
There are so many frightened, paranoid red necks out there clinging to their guns just waiting for the opportunity to shoot another human being. It’s the moment they’ve been waiting for, praying for, hoping for. Not only will they get to kill the “ultimate prey” but finally all of their fears will be vindicated. See LIBS, there was something to be scared of! That unarmed black kid in a hooded sweatshirt gave me a dirty look, he was a threat.
Only criminals and law breakers need worry. Of course that includes the party of law breakers.
pretty soon it wont be safe to go out of the house
Only for Democrats!
You aint seen nothing yet on the North End. Welcome to Gunsmoke.
Bring it on, but, you best be very careful.
This is another reason to get rid of Ragan and Steckman. They voted to take away or restrict our rights under the constitution.
