Senator Joni Ernst

TAMA, IOWA – United States Senator Joni Ernst will tour a beef slaughterhouse next week, but the company won’t allow the press to accompany her.

Ernst, a Republican U.S. Senator from Iowa, will be in Tama County to visit Iowa Premium Beef on the morning of Monday, January 16, 2017 as part of her 99 county tour.

The media will not be allowed by Iowa Premium Beef to accompany Senator Ernst on her tour.

According to an Ernst spokesperson, “in this instance, the hosting company had safety concerns with accommodating members of the press on the tour, as they are a meat packing and processing facility.”

Last year, a young man died while working at Iowa Premium Beef.

Senator Ernst will meet with the media after her tour.

Later that day, Senator Ernst will be in Poweshiek County to visit the Grinnell Regional Medical Center and then she will be in Keokuk County to hold a rural law enforcement meeting, also as part of her 99 county tour. The media is invited to attend both of these events, but the press will not be allowed to take videos or photographs where patients are present at the medical center.

  1. What she is doing is protecting the rights of a “PRIVATE” business who doesn’t want the lying, crooked press in their facility. That is their right.

    1. Just like any good Republican she will try to keep the truth away from the common man while helping to line the pockets of the wealthy owners of the meatpacking plant. She is doing what Republicans elected her to do.
