AMES, Iowa – The senior duo of Jadda Buckley and Seanna Johnson guided Iowa State to a 76-68 victory over UNI Tuesday night at Hilton Coliseum. The win moves the Cyclones to 2-0 on the season, while the Panthers suffered their first loss to drop to 1-1 on the campaign.

Buckley led all scorers with 25 points, her fourth career game over 20 points, while Johnson posted 15 points and a career-best 18 rebounds. Bridget Carleton joined the duo in double figures with 14.

Both teams struggled to put the ball in the basket, as neither team could muster a shooting percentage above 35 percent in the early goings. The Cyclones took an 8-5 lead on a Bridget Carleton 3-pointer, which the Cyclones were able to make 17-11 on the first basket of the second quarter by Adriana Camber. However, the Panthers fought back to 19-19 on a 3-pointer from Angie Davison.

It served as a wake-up call for the home team, who ran off a 7-2 run to get back ahead 26-21 on a TeeTee Starks free throw. The lead moved up to 31-23 on another Camber 3-pointer, but the Panthers were able to cut the advantage back down to four at 34-30 on a bucket from Hannah Schonhardt.

A 3-pointer from Carleton opened the third quarter on a strong note for ISU, but the Panthers were able to battle to a tie score again at 43-43 when Schonhardt made another basket. The game’s critical run came at 45-45, when the Cyclones went on a 9-2 run to close third quarter, making 6-of-6 from the charity stripe to be ahead 54-47 at the quarter break.

From there, ISU was able to guide it home, bumping up the advantage to as many as 10 points at 61-51. UNI made a push back with back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the advantage to four. The Cyclones had enough to seal the deal, as Johnson stepped up with an old-fashioned three-point play to push the lead back to 68-59 and give ISU the needed gap for victory.

Cyclone Player of the Game
Seanna Johnson. With the Cyclones’ other rebounders in foul trouble across the contest, the All-Big 12 senior did her thing on the glass. Johnson recorded a career-high 18 rebounds, tying for the eighth-most in a game by an individual in program history. She also added 15 points, giving her the 28th double-double of her career.
