MASON CITY – For the second straight week, NIACC’s Wal Khat has been selected as the NJCAA Division I athlete of the week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Khat won the Grinnell’s Les Duke Invitational on Saturday and helped lead the NIACC men’s cross country team to a fifth-place team finish at the Grinnell Country Club.

Khat covered the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 55 seconds for his second win of the season in the 234-athlete field.

Khat earned the same honor last week as well after placing second in the college division at the Augustana Twilight Invitational.

The other male winners this week are Eastern Kentucky’s Erick Rotich (NCAA Division I), Colorado Mines’ Nathanael Williams (NCAA Division II), NYU’s Jorge Maldonado (NCAA Division III) and Columbus State CC’s Adam Glass (NJCAA Division III).
