Plane makes emergency landing at Mason City Airport

mason city airportMASON CITY – A smoky cockpit forced a plan to make an emergency landing in Mason City Tuesday.

At approximately 1:00 PM American Eagle Flight 3495, operated by Envoy Airlines, diverted to the Mason City Municipal Airport due to smoke in the cockpit. The aircraft had 45 passengers and 3 crew members onboard. The aircraft landed safely at the airport and evacuated passengers on the runway. No injuries were reported during the evacuation, and no smoke or fire were found. Passengers were bussed to the airport terminal, and are to be picked up by a replacement aircraft later this evening.

The Mason City Airport Fire Department was assisted by Mason City Fire Department, Clear Lake Fire Department, Ventura Fire Department, Mason City Police Department, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department, and Iowa State Patrol.
