Sheriff warns of possible phone outage this weekend

cell-phoneSHEFFIELD – Cerro Gordo Sheriff Kevin Pals warned today that persons in the Sheffield, Iowa area could be without phone service for a few hours from Sunday to Monday.

According to Sheriff Pals, Frontier Communication will be working on fiber optic cables in the Sheffield area. Sheriff Pals advised all Frontier customers to be aware that their service maybe interrupted this Sunday, November 15, 2015 into Monday, November 16, 2015. The outage would begin at midnight on Sunday night and last until 6 AM Monday morning.

It is anticipated the service will be interrupted for only a couple of hours during this time frame. During this time period, the exchanges (towns and rural) of Sheffield, Swaledale, Thornton, Latimer, Coulter, Alexander, and Messervey will not have emergency 911 capabilities or long distance service. They will have dial tone and be able to call inside their respective communities only.

If you have emergency and find you are not able to dial 911, delete from your land line phone you will still be able to contact your local law enforcement by dialing 911 from your cell phone.
