CHARLES CITY – A woman who was busted stealing a Toys for Tots jar at a Mason City pizza shop was involved in a car accident this week, causing thousands of dollars in damages.
On September 22 at about 3:55 PM, officers with the Charles City police department responded to an accident in the 1100 block of South Grand Avenue. A Nashua man, 21-year-old Chad Rich, was driving a 2003 Chevy Silverado when he was struck by a 1995 Buick Park Avenue driven by 24-year-old Kayleigh Rae Hormann of Rudd. Rich was cited for failure to yield, while Hormann was arrested for driving with a suspended license. Police said about $8,000 of damages resulted from the collision.
Hormann was caught on video in 2012 stealing a donation canister for Toys for Tots from the Mason City Little Caesars pizza shop. She later pled guilty to the crime – fifth degree theft – and was ordered to pay $425.00 in fines, court fees and restitution.
Records show she never made a payment on that balance in the (nearly) three years since her guilty plea.
