NIACC teams win Buena Vista Invitational

niacc_trojans_logoSTORM LAKE – The NIACC men’s and women’s cross country teams both claimed titles at the Buena Vista Invitational on Friday at the Sunrise Pointe Golf Course.

The NIACC men won with a total of 32 points. Martin Luther College was second with 33 points.

The NIACC women won the team title with 31 points. Host Buena Vista was second with 43 points.

In the men’s race, NIACC sophomore Imad Amenzou won the 8-kilometer race in 26 minutes, 28.17 seconds. Teammate Jacob Day was second in 27:12 in the first 8K race of the season for the Trojan men.

Other counting scores for the Trojans were Tyler Randall was eighth in 28:48; Jose Aguilera was 11th in 29:15 and Lucas White was 13th in 29:23.

Also running for the Trojans were Nick Frenz, who was 14th in 29:26; John Enright was 18th in 30:31; Aaron Hardcastle was 19th in 31:34 and Alec Mulcahey was 29th in 35:58.

In the women’s race, NIACC’s Jessica Blumberg was the individual champion in 20:28 in the 5K race. The Lady Trojans’ Emerson Sears was third in 20:50.

Other counting scores for the Lady Trojans were Kendra Schmidt, who was 20:59; Alyssa Cowan, who was ninth in 21:20; and Lattie Crozier, who was 12th in 22:04.

Also running for the Lady Trojans were Jordan Lane (22nd in 23:19); Taylor Glawe (32nd in 24:44) and Emma Phipps (36th in 29:01).

The NIACC cross country teams return to action Sept. 26 at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational.
