MASON CITY – There was a ruckus in the Cultural Crescent Thursday night, ending with the arrest of a convicted Mason City meth dealer for an assault.

Thursday evening at about 9:13 PM, Mason City police said that “a disagreement” between two males was reported at State Street and Connecticut Avenue in the beloved Cultural Crescent, not far from the precious Egloff House.  The complainant in that incident declined to press charges, police said.

However, the apparent disagreement wasn’t over.

Shortly thereafter, at 10:20 PM, a friend of one of the people involved in the earlier incident came to the police department.  This person reported that the other male involved in the earlier dispute had now threatened him with a knife as they argued over the previous dispute.

Police investigated and arrived at an alley near the police department, off of 1st Street west of Connecticut Avenue.  According to neighbors, there were a number of men in the alley, shouting obscenities at each other; some of the men claimed they were looking for their lost dog.  Neighbors say that in their opinions, a lot of the on-going trouble there stems from rental apartments in that alley owned by council woman Jean Marinos.  It was said that there is a lot of suspicious activity in the area these days, with “shady characters” coming and going at all hours of the day and night.

“They’re not from here, the neighborhood’s not going to hell!” one officer proclaimed at the scene.

As police arrived, Cerro Gordo deputies joined them and blocked off the alley.  Statements were taken and one man was detained and questioned.  Jonathin Ray Wheeler, age 29 of Mason City was at the scene.  The convicted meth dealer told officers he had a “cell phone contract” when they asked him for identification.

Wheeler – who is sometimes incarcerated in the Beje Clark halfway house – was taken to jail on a charge of aggravated assault.

wow let’s just print whatever we feel like. don’t dig any deeper. don’t ask questions of people involved. what a joke this website is.

I do not always agree with the City Council and how Jean votes, but I will defend Her membership in our Orthodox Christian Community, She is a member in “Good Standing. There is no oil and water in our Community, either you are Orthodox or your not, Jean is a member!!! Father Joseph Mirowski

I think there should be a fine imposed on Marinos an the loss of her divers license for a year because she allowed drug dealers to operate out of her property. The property involved should be forfeited and sold with the proceeds used to combat real crime like Greeks operating restaurants and bars. Jean Marinos trying to blend into the Orthodox church is like mixing oil and water.

Every landlord in this town should be fined if they are renting to drug dealers and those dealers get caught. One way to start clearing the thugs out and sending them back where they came from.

dumbass. are you expecting a landlord to be the police? you can’t just walk into a tenant’s residence guns blazing. learn your laws.

concerned citizen your not very concerned, don’t even know his name

So what’s the difference between Billy Ray Wheeler and Billy Ray Cyrus? Well one scruffy potato scrubber figured out how to play a guitar and get on stage, and the other lingered around Mason City in and out of BeJe Clark.

One is a MILLIONAIRE ten times over who’s Father was a state representive and has a daughter who is mega famous. The other is a gutter rat.

ISHMB what do you have to show for your life? Are you between a gutter rat and BRay? lol Or somewhere “beneath” them? lol

Are they going to blame this call on Eleven also? Maybe they need to start a nuisance charge against the landlord for attracting such activity. Also, off subject – just curious how many “MAN-HOURS’ it took McElvey to come up with the statistics and powerpoint that he produced at the July 28th council meeting to discredit Eleven? What a waste of taxpayer money…. is he doing that for every criminal activity or disturbance? Or is he just targeting Eleven?

Have you ever been there? And if so between hours 11 – 2? The dress code is gone. Do you think the people you see in the pictures were people just hanging out?

Looks more like Matts after Jean Marinos and those who bought the Egloff house. Read between the lines. (his note about apt owned by Jean) He uses theswe stories to try and stick it to the council & chamber. Sick sick sick….obviously no cure….

It just doesn’t get any better in old river city, and just think, a full moons coming.

I think they have more police calls to the cultural center than the Bar 11 ???
