Woman injured in car crash Wednesday in Mason City

iowa-state-patrol-logo-doorMASON CITY – Bright sunlight blocked the view of a driver as he pulled onto a busy highway on Mason City’s west side, causing an auto accident Wednesday evening.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, a 2011 Toyota Rav driven by 56-year-old Kristie Kaye Kobernusz of Dougherty was traveling east on Highway 122 as a 2006 Ford truck driven by 23-year-old Justin Keith Peterson of Northwood was exiting the parking lot at Big Red Power (located near Killdeer Avenue) at about 7:05 PM Wednesday evening.  Peterson was stopped and then proceeded to pull out of the parking lot into the path of Kobernusz’s vehicle. The report states that bright sunlight blocked Peterson’s view and he did not see the on-coming Toyota.

Kobernusz, who was wearing a seat belt, was injured and taken to Mercy Hospital in Mason City.
